MOT test
If you own a fleet of refrigerated vehicles, it is safe to assume that you demand a perfectly maintained vehicle, at all time. To protect your license, your vehicles have to undergo some crucial tests that will certify it fit for driving. One of such tests is the MOT test. The MOT test stands for Ministry Of Transport test. It is an annual test of vehicle safety, roadworthiness, aspects and exhaust emissions, required in the UK, for most vehicles, over three years old. An MOT pass certificate indicates that at the time of the test, the vehicle met or exceeded the minimum safety standards, determined by the DVSA guidelines. The test applies to vehicles used on roads, highways and other places, available for public use. Most local car repair garages throughout the UK, are authorised to perform MOT testing and to issue certificates. It is important that the garage that performs the MOT test is standard, as MOT tests are constantly updated from time to time.
MOT Test for Refrigeration Vehicles
refrigerated vehicles are great for transporting large amounts of goods that need to be kept at a certain temperature. They are cleverly designed, to regulate temperature and prevent the spoilage of your precious cargo. Refrigeration vehicles create the link in the cold chain, allowing frozen or chilled produce to reach the end user, in the correct temperature environment. They are used to keep the produce at the same temperature they left the manufacturer, before reaching the end user, thereby stopping them from getting warm, during the journey. They are mostly used to transport frozen foods and temperature-sensitive goods. From large national companies to small private businesses, refrigerated trucks and vans are essential for the businesses of catering and food delivery, butchers, fishmongers, event and wedding caterers, pharmaceutical companies, and many others. Refrigerated vehicles, especially pre-owned, or used refrigerated vehicles, ought to undergo an MOT test, before they are delivered to their owners. The MOT test covers the flowing aspects:
- Brakes
- Brake light
- Horns
- Exhaust system
- Total check of the Condition of the body structure and chassis
- Emission test, for both diesel and petrol engine vehicles
- Anti-lock braking system
- Rear wheel bearings
- Rear wheel steering
- Bonnet catch
- Number plate
- Mirrors
- Doors
- Seat
- Suspension
- Fuel system
- Seat belt
- Lights
- Steering
- Wheels
- Strict tyre thread depth check
- Checks of secondary restraint systems, battery and wiring, electronic stability control (esc), speedometers and steering locks
- Windscreen wipers and washers
- Direction indicators
An MOT test certificate confirms that at the time of the test, the vehicle has met the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards. It does not mean that the vehicle is roadworthy, for the life of the certificate. The test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox. It also does not include the inspection of most vehicle accessories.
